Keep Going with the Hurtta Active Harness

If you’re going to get a harness for your dog, make sure it is one that can handle adventure. The Hurtta Active Harness can definitely do that. We had a small issue with the chest plate being too wide for Hope’s tiny little frame, but the harness itself is a great investment for dogs with a slightly larger chest. I feel like we could have given it a better, more thorough, review if that aspect of the harness was corrected.

Key Features of the Active Harness

  • Adjustable collar and chest straps
  • Easy to dress
  • Padded and comfortable to wear
  • Ring on the back to connect a leash
  • Works well as a safety harness for the car rides
  • Comes in 4 colors: Juniper, Raven (Hope’s color), Cherry & Sand

While Hope had a harder time wearing the Active Harness, she was still able to use it effectively. It seemed like she didn’t notice the width of the chest plate as much when she was running or playing, but when she was walking/jogging she seemed to paddle her feet out more to “walk around” it. It does not cover as much of her back as her Ruffwear Webmaster Harness, which means less heat trapped near her little body. It’s very easy to get on & off your dog thanks to the buckles on BOTH sides of the harness. The 3M reflectors give added visibility & helped me see Hope when she decided to dart off into the weeds hunting for mice. Once we were home, we found the Active Harness easy to wash free of all the water & sand it encountered.

Hi Hope, I can still see you! Thanks to the 3M reflector piping on the Active Harness.

One of our favorite features of the this product is the handle that can be found on the back piece of the harness. Hope does need help from time to time with scrambling up rocks or other obstacles & a handle does come in handy. The padding on the harness helps provide cushion during hoisting & I did not feel like Hope was uncomfortable at all.

You can see the handle on the top of the harness here. It also has a clip on it so you can attach your leash.

So let’s re-cap. While I could clearly see the chest plate on the harness was a tad-bit too wide for Hope’s tiny frame, it was still functional in all the other areas. It was easy to put on & take off thanks to buckles on each side of it. Cleaning the Active Harness is a breeze & it dries quickly too. The handle on the back of the harness helps when hoisting your pup over large obstacles is required. The padding used to make the harness is very soft, comfortable & breathable. And last but not least, the 3M reflectors on the harness help with visibility when your pup is camouflaged by weeds, high grass, or when out at night. The quality that Hurtta puts into all their products is second to none!

We would definitely recommend the Hurtta Active Harness to those who have dogs with slightly larger chests than Hope. Again, the harness was not so big as to completely stop her from moving, but it did seem to annoy her when she would sit, walk or jog. It’s features that we did like outweighed the single one that we didn’t & it is definitely a perfect piece of gear for adventures.
